5 Favourite Cookbooks

Screen Shot 2014-01-31 at 10.45.10 AMThis weeks Fav Friday is cookbooks.  I had a hard time narrowing my list down to 5.  I just bought a couple new ones that I am experimenting with this week.

So let’s begin…

1.  Make It Paleo, Bill Stanley and Hayley Mason.  Victory Belt Publishing Inc., Las Vegas: 2011.  I use this cookbook many times throughout the week.  It was one of my first cookbooks I bought when wheat/gluten and grains were removed from my diet.

2.  Practical Paleo, Diane Sanfilippo, Victory Belt Publishing Inc., Las Vegas: 2012.  This is a wealth of information and recipes.  It has 30-day meal plans, tear-out guides and gluten-free, grain-, legume- dairy- and refined-sugar-free recipes.

3.  Any of the Cooking for the Rushed cookbooks!  Sandi Richards is a local Cochrane girl and now sells her books internationally.  She helps busy families eat together again because she plans 5 main meals for you, including the grocery list.  Fabulous books to add to your shelf, if you are overwhelmed with the planning part.  Another added bonus is the included nutrient information right down to the Exchanges (very useful for those following the WOW eating plans).

4.  The Best of Clean Eating from the Editors of Clean Eating Magazine.  There are 3 volumes, so far.  Their premise is “improving your life one meal at a time.”  Of course, I am a fan of the Clean Eating Magazine to, which just recently returned to your periodical shelves in major stores.  These volumes are chalk full of wonderful and often easy recipes for one, two or a family.  My favourite recipes from volume 1 include Almond Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, Yummy Hummus, Easy & Elegant Salmon, Healthy French Onion Soup.

5.  Eat Clean Cookbooks, Tosca Reno.  I generally like all of her cookbooks and own them all.  Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Cookbook is a wealthy of great recipes like ratatouille (make often in the autumn), sweet potato salad, roast chicken and kale chips.

Honourable Mentions:

The Looneyspoons Collection, Janet & Greta Podleski. Granet Publishing Inc.: 2012.

Wheat Belly 30-Minute (or Less!) Cookbook, William Davis (Wheat Belly author). Collins: 2013. — This is my newest cookbook in  my collection.  Most of this week’s recipes came from here.  Last night I made the barbecue sauce and sloppy joes.  This sloppy joe recipe was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  In the introduction, Davis says that while liberating ourselves from wheat, we also need to remove gluten-free processed junk foods that include carbohydrates like cornstarch, rice starch/flour, potato starch, or tapioca starch.

Weeknight Paleo: 9 Weeks of Quick and Easy Gluten-Free Meals, Amber Beam. Underbite Publishing: 2012.
